PSP Firmware 2.70 - screenshots · 2006-04-29 00:03 by Damian, 1 comment(s)
Updated: Added info on the new support for saving RSS entries
Everyone already heard that the 2.70 firmware was released at 14:00 (14:10 actually, Sony were a little slow…) today in Japan, so why don’t we sink out teeth into it and grab some screenshots of the update process. While I’m in Japan at the moment, I did the update on a PSP bought in the US (model PSP-1001), so let’s see how that worked out despite the warnings to only do it on Japanese units. If you’re curious about the Flash support and RSS save feature, move on directly to page two.
Suffice it to say that there are NO problems whatsoever. I’m fairly sure that Sony wants to roll out the update in stages to have a bit of a safeguard in case someone finds a bug, but that’s all there’s to it. Of course, should you happen to somehow destroy something using the update, don’t blame me. If you’re worried, just wait a couple of weeks, I doubt anyone is in dire need of the Flash support.
Note: In all likelihood this version will break all known methods to run homebrew applications, so if that’s a big factor for you, you’re obviously better off not upgrading at all.
This page will be updated as we check out more of the new features.
The update process
The standard fare, download the provided file, put it on your Memory Stick under PSP/GAME/UPDATE/ and launch it.

Here’s the file, let’s launch it.

Ok, we do want to run it.

Standard disclaimer, everything is in English as expected.

...and page 3.

No turning back now, as always you need to have the AC adapter firmly plugged in.

And we’re done, new firmware up and running. No problems so far.
Check out screenshots of the Flash support on the next page.
