Dell 2407WFP - delayed again · 2006-04-26 14:30 by Damian, 1 comment(s)
A little more than a month ago Dell’s new 24 inch widescreen monitor went up for sale on Dell’s Japanese website. Since I’ve been waiting for a HDCP-capable monitor to be fully compatible with Windows Vista once it is released, I placed an order as soon as I could. The listed delivery time was two weeks, but those two weeks quickly came and went with no monitor in sight.
After a few more days an email from Dell stated that the monitor had now unfortunately been delayed until the end of April. Well, it’s now the end of April and still no word, so I called them up to check the status. Apparently due to some manufacturing issues, it has been delayed again. New delivery date is said to be “middle of May” though the representative quickly added “though it could be even later than that, check back with us in May”. Too bad, I was hoping to get this nice piece of kit sooner rather than later. In Japan, the list price is JPY 157,500 ($1370), but at the moment you can get it for JPY 99,800 ($868) in a campaign that will last at least until May 8th. I would expect US prices to be even lower.
If you’re not eagerly anticipating this monitor yet, a brief description might help:
- 24 inches, 1920×1200 resolution, 6 ms grey-to-grey response time
- DVI, VGA, composite, S-video and component inputs. The DVI has HDCP support
- Picure-in-picture support
- built-in 9-in-1 memory card reader
Hooked yet? Remember, if you’re like me you’re spending most of the day looking at a monitor, you’d be stupid not to get the best you can afford. In any case we will have to wait and see if this is the monitor to own in 2006. While the 30-inch 3007WFP is spectacular, its price, graphics adapter requirements and lack of inputs will keep it out of the mainstream for quite a while longer.
Well then, all of you waiting for the 2407WFP to hit Dell’s US store, the reason they haven’t put it up for sale yet is probably that they don’t seem to really know when they will be able to ship it. If that’s the case it’s probably a good idea to hold off launching it rather than keeping people waiting after they have already placed an order.
While you’re waiting, feast your eyes on the manual if you haven’t already done so. We will keep you updated on what’s happening, and as soon as it shows up we will be bringing a full hands-on look.

Thanks for the update. Every freaking day I check both Dell’s USA and UK site for news on this monitor only to find nothing. But I’m hanging there!!!
