New Super Mario Bros - Wow! · 2006-05-13 12:45 by Damian
Guess what I’ll be doing on May 25th? That’s right, I’ll settle down in a comfy chair, put my cell phone in manner mode and get busy playing New Super Mario Bros on my DS Lite.
While the Japanese launch is still almost two weeks away, you can still get a taste for how it plays – a demo version is starting to show up in the normal demo kiosks. It’s rather limited – it will only let you play a few of the initial worlds before brutally kicking you back to the menu screen.
First impression – it looks great! You’ve already seen the reviews, screenshots and even movie clips, so you know all about the 2D-graphics with fully 3D-animated characters. However, until you actually see it running on the razor-sharp screen of a DS Lite you won’t know just how good it looks. The colors are vivid, everything moves fluidly, and it plays just as you would expect if you have any experience of the old Mario games.
If you’re in Japan, head out to your nearest electronics shop to get a taste for yourself, provided you can navigate the horde of kids that will no doubt be hogging the DS demos at most times of the day.
If you’re in the US you are in luck since the game will be out on Monday – unfair to let us in Japan wait longer… However – let me assure you that you do want to play this on a DS Lite. If you can’t wait until June 11th for it to be released in the US, head over to our friends at Lik-Sang below and order one now. Yes – the DS Lite is that good. A word of warning – in my local stores, the DS Lite has been consistently sold out ever since its launch. Wherever you plan to buy one – make sure you act fast.
Europeans will have to wait until June 30th for New Super Mario. A bit of a weird release date if you ask me – around that time kids should be outdoors rather that digging into a new Mario game. Also, as far as I know no European release date has been announced yet for the DS Lite, so you’re definitely better off importing one.
