World Cup Soccer on your PSP - more facts · 2006-06-10 11:22 by Damian
Ok, if you read our previous article about video downloads of the World Cup games, read on for some hard facts now that the tournament has started.
As mentioned before, JPY 105 ($0.94) lets you dowload a clip of hightlights for a game. So what kind of clip is that download? Actually, not all that impressive, your money gets you a 4-5 minute clip of goals and near misses. The commentary is obviously in Japanese, the video is only 4:3 despite the fact that everything about the 2006 World Cup is being shot and produced in 16:9 HD. Having said that, the video quality is excellent, knowing that fast-moving sports is notoriously difficult to cope with for video compression algorithms.
The DRM restrictions on these clips are more lax than usual, for your money you get 90 days in which to watch Germany beat Costa Rica 4-2 before the clip expires. Certainly better than the one-week expiration of most of the other content available.
