Autumn has come in Japan, or? · 2006-08-28 22:14 by Damian
Sorry for the lack of updates lately, I’ve been busy securing a new job to make sure I can stay in Japan longer than a measly year…
Anyway, it’s the end of August, which in Japan means painfully hot weather, especially in the Tokai area (around Nagoya). Day temperatures have been over 30 degrees C for well over a month, and not much cooler at night. So why on earth would I be talking about autumn?
It’s quite simple, the marketing powers that be have unanimously decided that the sales of summer specials are dropping, so it’s time to move on to autumn-specific products. More specifically – beer. All of a sudden the local supermarkets are full of yellow-red-orange cans of “limited edition” autumn beer. Since Japanese people are well known for buying most anything that is limited edition, this tactic seems to work pretty well. And it’s not just beer either, there’s special autumn versions of potato chips, chocolate bars, you name it. Just another season in Japan.
Oh, how the beer tasted? Good, though I’d be hard pressed to tell the difference from the summer edition I tried just before… :)
