Playstation 3 preorder · 2006-10-16 20:21 by Damian
Well, today at 19:00 was the set time when Amazon Japan would finally start accepting preorders for the PS3. Not surprisingly it took all of 5 minutes before the site went to “Out of stock”...
The price for the 60 Gb version was listed at about 62,000 yen, but since the site didn’t manage to process my order before going out of stock, I guess I’ll be in for a wait…

We missed the release of Panasonic’s first generation Blu-Ray drive (LF-MB121JD) the other day, but today we actually stumbled across a bunch of them at the local computer hardware store. [...]
Dell 2407WFP - finally! Part 1 - the unpacking · 2006-05-25 00:27 by Damian
Well, finally! After having waited two months rather than the promised two weeks, today I finally got the spanking new Dell 2407WFP, 24 inches of widescreen glory. After all the debate about banding, ghosting and other problems with Dell’s new batch of monitors, I was eager to unpack it. Initial tests show no problems whatsoever, but more conclusive testing is needed. Read on. [...]
New Super Mario Bros - Wow! · 2006-05-13 12:45 by Damian
Guess what I’ll be doing on May 25th? That’s right, I’ll settle down in a comfy chair, put my cell phone in manner mode and get busy playing New Super Mario Bros on my DS Lite.
While the Japanese launch is still almost two weeks away, you can still get a taste for how it plays [...]
TV on your cell phone in Japan - OneSeg · 2006-05-03 19:35 by Damian
Ever heard the word OneSeg? Or perhaps WanSegu? If you don’t live in Japan, probably not. In fact, most Japanese people don’t know it either. So what is it? As you would probably not be able to guess from hearing it, it’s all about watching TV on your cell phone. The service launched on April 1st here, so how does it look one month later? [...]

Updated: Added info on the new support for saving RSS entries
Everyone already heard that the 2.70 firmware was released at 14:00 today in Japan, so why don’t we sink out teeth into it and grab some screenshots of the update process. While I’m in Japan at the moment, I did the update on a PSP bought in the US, so let’s see how that worked out despite the warnings. [...]
Dell 2407WFP - delayed again · 2006-04-26 14:30 by Damian, 1 comment(s)
A little more than a month ago Dell’s new 24 inch widescreen monitor went up for sale on Dell’s Japanese website. Since I’ve been waiting for a HDCP-capable monitor to be fully compatible with Vista once it is released, I placed an order as soon as I could. The listed delivery time was two weeks, but those two weeks came and went, but no monitor. Lastest information says delivery by mid-May. I guess we’ll see about that.
Map software for PSP released in Japan · 2006-04-23 00:24 by Damian, 1 comment(s)
Update: Added information about the downloadable add-ons.
Today’s date has been mentioned around the web as the day when GPS-related firmware and other stuff would be released. Most of that probably originated by someone spotting ads about today’s software release: Minna no chizu (Everyone’s map). That software is indeed available from today, but there is no new firmware, and no mention of any GPS support yet. With that cleared out, let’s see what we’ve got. [...]

Chances are that you first heard rumors about Sony’s Portable TV service (P-TV) for the Playstation Portable when the 2.0 firmware was first released. With H.264 support came news of a new service starting in Japan where PSP owners would be able to download content directly to their Memory Sticks. By now the service has been up and running for several months, albeit with a slightly flawed business model. Read on to find out why and see examples of how it works. [...]
The DS Lite feels old · 2006-04-16 00:19 by Damian
Clarification, I certainly don’t mean old as in boring or outdated, rather old as in a nice acquaintance from long ago. The other day I decided to go grab a DS Lite even though I already have a standard DS. I was mainly doing it for the better displays that everybody keeps raving about. I agree, the displays are a big step forward, just as expected. However, what really surprised me was [...]
